There are some brave souls out there… willing to go out into the wintery mess of Louisville and play in the snow for some fun-filled engagement photos. After seeing an amazing engagement photography session IN the SNOW!!! – by the fabulous Bobbi + Mike – i was so inspired to do some myself. So, you can imagine how thrilled i was to have Jenna and Nate call me and ask if they can get some photos in the snow!! woo hoo They were pretty excited too!

Old Louisville Photoshoot

February 3, 2010

I went out with my roommate the other day to capture some images for a new church plant that she is going to be involved in. She asked me to tag along and shoot with her all around Old Louisville. Jessica is an amazing photographer and i know she did not need me to get amazing shots… but sometimes it’s just fun to have another photographer with you to gain inspiration and ideas from. So, we traipsed all around the University of Louisville and Old Louisville to grab a photo or two or 300 :)

Here are some of the images I caught of Old Louisville and at the University

I kind of have this thing for bikes.. I think it is kinda symbolic with it’s flat tire and beat up frame.

The assignment was to get an vintage feel.. so you may notice many of these look similar in feel. I love these shadows on the elevator.

Found a few students outside.. but mostly inside :) i wonder why? could it be -warmth :)

We just had to go up this stairwell.. nevermind that there was caution tape everywhere and rusty cracked steps …

I did get a little sidetracked :) these barrels were just fun.

lots of fun old churches in Louisville with lots of character

speaking of character

There are so many amazing homes in Old Louisville, i actually have done some photography here before with Shelly and Jeremy for their wedding photos. So you can see lots more of the homes by clicking on their name.

It was a good day.. any time i get to go practice photography is good :) I love this last picture..

Have a great week!!

Who doesn’t love a weekend with the girls?!! This past weekend, i went to a women’s retreat at Kavanaugh Retreat Center right outside of Louisville, KY. I must admit it was great to unplug from cell and internet and just laugh and eat and enjoy the company of other women. There were women from all walks of life – grandmothers to college students. After sharing, laughing and crying together – I have bonded with all these women. I have such a deep gratitude and appreciation for the privilege of knowing their stories and the opportunity to share mine as well. I just can’t say enough about this little retreat at Kavanaugh. Women at the Cross put all of this together.. they have retreats in Louisville, Colorado and soon to be Alabama. I would recommend anyone to sign up!!! I just thought you would like to meet some of the amazing -truly authentic -women that impacted my life this weekend.
We were so busy that i didn’t get a lot of time to take photos (although they did ask me to do all the group photography) – I was able to get away for about 5 minutes to take these photos around Kavanaugh Retreat Center.

I spent the little time i had to play with photography, looking for signs of life admist the deadness of winter. Here is a sign that there is life in this broken dark branch. GREEN :) which is also my favorite color.

And for the WATC ladies: One of the common sayings for the weekend.. just click and download.. it is yours to use however you like :)

Introducing my friend Julie…. i’m kinda partial to her name for obvious reasons. She has a heart for missions and is planning on working overseas in a few months. We decided to get together to work on photos that she can send to family and friends while she is away. We had so much fun… and yes, we kept singing that song (singing in the rain). I’m sorry if that tune is now in your head… because it is totally in mine!!! :-P

WE thought about canceling because of the rain.. but my friend julie loves umbrellas. I mean LOVES them… ha, i had to make sure it wasn’t in every photo :) . So, we went around Louisville avoiding the puddles and trying to stay dry. Isn’t she just so cute.

This is her Russian dictator look.

Julie is such a playful person…. i loved it!! She would do any crazy thing i wanted her to do including riding a pretend bike that was painted on this random wall in Louisville.

I love this picture :) beautiful!!

Let’s see if you can tell what her personality might be like….

You can just imagine how much fun i had being her photographer all around Louisville.

These really show how beautiful she is…

She has an infectious personality.. it’s easy to be drawn to her smile and humor.

Thanks for letting me be your photographer for the day. It was so much fun. You are such a great model …. i have proof.

Sneak Peak | Julie

January 18, 2010

Julie is a dear friend with a really cool name ;) and a heart for missions. So, we got together to work on her prayer card. This is not one we are using… but just wanted to give you a sneak peak at our little afternoon photo shoot in Louisville. Fun. Fun.

i think i was in trouble here or something :) I’m trying to think of a good caption — she is such a sassy pants :) love it.

I can’t think of one of us who isn’t affected on some level by what is going on in Haiti. Just today – i allowed myself to view images, video and photography from the earthquake devastation. Those poor people – I’m wishing i had the necessary skills to help in direct aid for medical or rescue… but since i don’t — I want to aid Haiti through photography and lending support and voice to those who will be helping long-term to get Haitians safe and healthy. I don’t know if many of you are aware of what was happening in Haiti prior to the national attention of the earthquake, but Haitians have long struggled as slaves, sold into slave labor to harvest sugar. The movie The Price of Sugar is a documentary of that slavery. Several groups have been there working among the Haitians prior to the disaster and have developed relationships and are working long-term for their freedom. These groups are also helping during this time of crisis.. but more importantly — they will continue to help after all initial support leaves. One of these ministries is called EDGE Outreach and they along with the help of The Greatest Restaurant in the World are raising funds to send teams to set up a permanent water resource along with other needs. I was happy to volunteer to photograph the event. The Greatest Restaurant exists to educate people about poverty and to raise support to feed and care for those in need. They do this simply through a humble meal of rice and beans and limited water. Here are some of the photos that will be used toward this mission.

This is TJ Hester.. he is amazing. Loved his sound – you should check him out

Thanks Edge and Greatest Restaurant for letting me be a part of the Haitian Relief efforts and supporting your mission through photography. Please just click on either of their names to aid in these groups in making a profound impact to Haiti now and in the future.

Looking for Love

January 11, 2010

I decided to put myself out there to try and meet someone. You see i have people all around me getting engaged plus – I am a wedding photographer….I’M SURROUNDED BY LOVE!!!!! – and i give up :) My desire to get married is intensified by all these influences. So, this year – “2010″ – i thought i would do more to increase my chances of meeting a guy that would might just curl my toes and make me swoon :) I wanna SWOON!!!!

So- here is the plan for now. I am getting on eharmony. I thought you all might be able to help me through this process. I mean – i tend to rule guys out too soon sometimes – plus sometimes this process is long and hard.. you know, finding a guy, developing a relationship. I tend to get discouraged sometimes in this area of my life. So, i am inviting you all along for the ride.

I put a few pics up on my profile- I thought these were good starters. What do you think?

I am allowed to add about 10 more. If you have any suggestions – please let me know. You can check my facebook pics or anything on my website and just leave me message on the pic and say “this one :) ” and i will know what you mean. ha!!

After erasing about 25 matches so far…. only two looked promising. Both love the Lord.. but one is huge fan of Joyce Meyers which is fine as long as he doesn’t continually quote her or have posters of her. haha. There is always a risk with online dating. i almost put their pics on here … but i chickened out :)

Elbow Chronicles: part 3

January 11, 2010

So… now i am a robot!! You would think with all of our cutting edge technology that we could make something a little cuter and a whole lot less cumbersome!! Luckily – i became a robot right before Halloween so it could blend in as a costume. See how i blended in :) yeah, ok… i am fooling myself!!!

Anyways… so now i just needed to heal for the next 6weeks as a “robot” I had to cut up some shirts, in fact the one i have on.. one of the sleeves were cut out so that it could fit over the obnoxious metal atrocity on my left arm!! It’s hard to have one sleeve during the winter!! During the last two weeks of being in the brace, i was permitted to carefully take it off to take showers more easily and to put on some long sleeve shirts.

During these last weeks… i also needed to find a car. i really wanted a Rav4 with a sunroof and roof rack.. you know, the important things :) So i set out to find one… one problem, i only like a few models – the 2001,02 and 2005. Yeah.. ha. After searching the internet .. i found one at a dealer. It was cute!! Just what i wanted except for no sunroof/ roof rack. I took it for a test drive and planned on coming back the next day to make an offer. As i was leaving, this guy texted me to see what i was doing. I had just met him the week before and he was a mechanic and told me if i needed any help with the car search to let him know. (But since i just met him.. i wasn’t going to ask him – i mean that seemed awkward) But once he found out where i was.. he offered to check out the car. I, of course, accepted.

my little white Rav passed the first inspection, but my friend was a little skeptical about the dealer and said that the transmission fluid was black… He decided to talk to the dealer and see if he could get the price down low. I don’t know why.. but that dealer and him did not like each other. The dealer refused to come down on price. I was very disappointed :( I kinda thought in my head .. i will come back in a few days and talk to him myself.. since this was most likely just egos at work. But before i could go back, my friend found at more information and we both realized that the transmission was bad. WOW. Tell me that God isn’t looking out for me… this was unreal. I was ready to buy that car.

The good news is that a few days later, i found one with everything i wanted and it cost $2,000 cheaper!! Here it is with a little snow on it

I definitely seen God’s presence and care for me during this whole season. I have learned lots about limitations, God’s providence and sovereignty over my life, how much i am loved and cared for, learned to ask for help more (that’s one that is still hard), and I learned to slow down and to value and spend time with ppl. I did a lot of coffee and lunch dates that i normally don’t have time to do. I also learned that i love to cook and cook for people. It’s been a sweet time tho so difficult. It the midst of this, God saw it fit to test some relationships, reveal some sin and to allow me to set some boundaries that were absolutely necessary. I have learned to love people and die to self for the sake of someone else. I have learned to let go and just release -entrusting relationships to the Lord. So, yes a painful season but necessary one. I’m thankful for it.

I still have a more recovery. I am currently working on range of motion for my arm. The doctor told me that if i only had this much range that would be excellent results.

but i had this much range

My doctor was so excited he took pictures and had other doctors come in to witness. Im sure lots of people would give all credit to my doctor.. i mean, he is an excellent doctor. I am so glad he took the risk to put every piece back together rather than just putting in a prostetic bone.

But if you consider… that i wasn’t with that Doctor!! i had another doctor but it just so happened that there was a dispute between the insurance and those associated with Norton Healthcare. And why this doctor, i mean there are lots of doctors in this office. But, i got him because he could see me soonest.

I am sure, you could find lots of reasons to explain away many of the things that had to fall in line for things to work the way they did. I’m sure you could. or … You could fall on your knees and give thanks for a God that just blew me away with how all worked together for good. I chose the latter. Amen and Amen

Favorite Seniors 2009

January 7, 2010

Here are some of my favorite Louisville Seniors and some of my favorite Louisville Senior Photography. Next to weddings, Seniors are my absolute favorite. I always have a great time with them – they are so fun and adventurous – it always makes for awesome photography. Here are some of the highlights.

My all time two favorite louisville senior photos of 2009:

A boy and his pet chicken

December 20, 2009

Every time I visit my Louisville friends from Somalia, it is an adventure. Last time – I went to their home, I was greeted with much excitement. They wanted to show me their new family edition… at first i thought they just wanted to show me the chicken that they made for dinner. But no, they wanted to introduce me to their family pet. Ha. i had to get some photographs. And as i followed the little boy back to his room in his small louisville city apartment…. out in the hallway came running a little white chicken. The smallest girl screamed and jumped on the couch as the pet chicken went running around the room. I must admit that i jumped too as i didn’t expect a live chicken to come out of his room much less for a boy to have a pet chicken in the projects. I asked their mom – “Are you planning on eating him?” Reasonable question considering these are African refugees – killing, plucking and cooking a chicken is a normal part of culture. But no, this was just their pet. By the way.. his name is chicken.

The funniest part was when ‘chicken’ jumped up on my American friends lap and she screamed but she couldn’t get the chicken off of her.. he just kept flying toward her. And by the way, the chicken is not potty trained – i got proof when i tried to help my friend. Awesome!! I had to get my iphone out for some special photographs and video – i mean no one would believe me.. ha, it’s true.

he loves his pet chicken :)
