Sneak Peek | Louisville Family Photography
July 15, 2010A boy and his pet chicken
December 20, 2009Every time I visit my Louisville friends from Somalia, it is an adventure. Last time – I went to their home, I was greeted with much excitement. They wanted to show me their new family edition… at first i thought they just wanted to show me the chicken that they made for dinner. But no, they wanted to introduce me to their family pet. Ha. i had to get some photographs. And as i followed the little boy back to his room in his small louisville city apartment…. out in the hallway came running a little white chicken. The smallest girl screamed and jumped on the couch as the pet chicken went running around the room. I must admit that i jumped too as i didn’t expect a live chicken to come out of his room much less for a boy to have a pet chicken in the projects. I asked their mom – “Are you planning on eating him?” Reasonable question considering these are African refugees – killing, plucking and cooking a chicken is a normal part of culture. But no, this was just their pet. By the way.. his name is chicken.

The funniest part was when ‘chicken’ jumped up on my American friends lap and she screamed but she couldn’t get the chicken off of her.. he just kept flying toward her. And by the way, the chicken is not potty trained – i got proof when i tried to help my friend. Awesome!! I had to get my iphone out for some special photographs and video – i mean no one would believe me.. ha, it’s true.
he loves his pet chicken
A Missions Heart
November 28, 2009I have often heard it called a missions heartbeat. How do you define such an irregularity in the beat of ones heart? All i can say is that this heart is not satisfied with the normal rhythms of life – but lives with a different rhythm – a beat that is not recognizable to the world or even understood by it. It’s a beat that moves one onward to lands unknown to languages not yet understood, to peoples who hate that heartbeat – but the heartbeat can not be quieted unless it is with those people – unless it learns to speak the language, unless it is in the land to share the one who gave them that heartbeat to begin with.
One of the reasons, i went to Minnesota to visit my friend and her family was to attend a missions conference and to hear from people who had a missions heart and who loved the LORD and people so much that they risked their lives to share the Gospel. i share that heartbeat… and hearing others only made mine beat stronger. God has a heart for the nations

The most moving moment was when a lady who is working in south asia spoke about life in hostile lands and her heart to reach muslims for Christ.
I was also able to participate in pampering some of these women who are serving and sharing Christ with the nations.

I can’t show a lot of their faces because of where they serve, but i can show one… what an amazing lady and fun too.

I met so many people – one even had a 65 million dollar hit on his head from the Muslim world because he was sharing Christ and speaking the truth about Islam. His name is Father Z. He is amazing and a very loving man who has been able to lead thousands of Muslims to Christ.

You want to cultivate a heartbeat for the Nations.. spend time with others who have that beat as well!! And then do something about it.
Spend Yourself got spent
November 16, 2009This past weekend i had the opportunity to go to one of the biggest medical missions conferences ever at Southeast Christian Church

The Global Medical Missions Conference is hosted by Southeast Church every year and it just seems to be getting bigger and bigger. So many medical students and professionals were there worshiping the LORD and seeking out ways to impact the world for Christ. I just love maps and they had this huge one where people could pins where they wanted to go or have been. Lots of pins – very exciting:

One of the Missions Ministers at Southeast, Ben Thornley, had a place he intended to go to as well.

I guess he wants to evangelize the sea creatures….
Anywho.. the big reason I was there was to help my friends at Spend Yourself. They had a booth in the exhibit hall – to educate people about Spend Yourself and to sell some shirts to support the various ministries they help to raise funds for and tell their stories such as SOZO, LIA, SCARLET HOPE and a brand new ministry called Resc/You. Just click on the links to find out more about the stories and the ministries that seek to evangelize and empower people – not just give band-aid solutions.

Each ministry they support is pretty amazing which is why Spend Yourself got started in the first place. This little non-profit t-shirt company – simply wanted to just tell the story and help raise money to support ministries that can impact the nations for Christ. And THAT they are doing…

This weekend was amazing for Spend Yourself because so many got to hear the stories and so many chose to support and tell the stories through the t-shirts. It’s quite encouraging to see so many get excited about Spend Yourself, too. The booth was constantly surrounded by people wanting to hear and of course buying shirts. We were wore out- completely spent – but so much fun. Can’t wait to see how the story travels!!!

What is even more amazing is that this company is run strictly by volunteers who believe in the cause – which means 100% of the profits go right to the ministry you choose to support. OH.. and did i mention – you can win free t-shirts for a year. Click here to find out how to register.
Life in Abundance
October 28, 2009Was invited by spend yourself to attend a fund raising dinner for LIA – an awesome organization that is impacting the world in the name of Christ – i have an opportunity to work with LIA this summer – i am so looking forward to it!! And the founder is an amazing lady – so humble – in fact i didn’t even know she was the one that started all of this until someone told me. The first time i met her – she just wanted to talk about Jesus
– you can see why i like her so much. And definitely someone that inspires me. You will most likely hear more in the future.

Louisville | Somali Party
October 1, 2009On of my missions in life is to love on and get to know the Somali people here in Louisville. God has really opened my missions heart towards these people and i have really enjoyed getting to know my new Louisville friends. If you have kept up with my blog, you will see – i have taken quite a few pictures of them. I hope one day to visit their country or take a photography mission trip there to just see what kind of life they led before they were forced to leave – some of the people i know here in louisville have lost family members in the process of escaping from their homes in Somalia. One of my dreams as a photographer is to use my photography for not just weddings but to impact the world however i can through pictures and images and to hopefully create in your heart – a love for people all over the world.. just as i love my friends here.
Recently .. we had a cookout just for fun and they got to roast smores and eat hot dogs (beef – of course! they are muslim) And we played for hours on the trampoline.. so much fun!!! We wore those kids out .. haha. They pretty much all fell asleep on the way home. Here are some pictures of all the fun:

Most of the night – we played on the trampoline!! They had so much fun and i got some great pictures

Say goodbye – baby Himysa
